Established in 2008, TSAHC's Texas Foundations Fund program provides grant funding to nonprofits that provide critical home repairs, supportive services, or housing counseling to very low-income Texans across the state. Since its inception, we've awarded approximately $9.7 million to nonprofits that span from El Paso to East Texas and the Panhandle to the Rio Grande Valley.

In 2023, we awarded just over $1 million to 66 nonprofits. Among these grantees, 32 are providing home repairs with our grant funds while 22 are providing supportive services, and 12 are providing housing counseling.

One of our new grantees we briefly want to spotlight is Grassroots Community Development (check presentation pictured above), a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2002 by Waco business leaders who wanted to use their industry knowledge to help increase the number of homeowners in their community.

Grassroots is using their grant funding toward their Waco Leaky Roofs program. Knowing that there are no other roofing repair programs to help low-income residents and that a leaky roof is one of the top reasons for homes being demolished in Waco, Grassroots provides full replacements of roofing materials in an attempt to keep families and individuals in their homes. These repairs are provided free of charge.

current grant cycle

If you're interested in joining Grassroots as one of our grantees, then we have good news as our current application cycle is open until Friday, May 31, 2024. Before applying, we recommend that interested organizations review both our 2024 Texas Foundations Fund Guidelines and our FAQ document to determine eligibility. We also hosted a webinar that provides detailed instructions on applying.

Disaster recovery grants

As it's extreme weather season with hurricane season just around the corner, we'd like to remind nonprofits that we also have our Texas Foundations Fund - Disaster Recovery program. This year we set aside $250,000 in grant funding for organizations that respond to declared disasters within their community.

These grants are limited to home repairs, and the maximum grant is $30,000 per organization. This funding is available year-round so long as funding is available, and nonprofits may request it as soon as there is a disaster declaration for their community. Please reference the program guidelines for more details.

To every nonprofit providing critically needed home repairs and services across the state, we extend our gratitude for what you do to improve the lives of Texans most in need.
